Data is everywhere! If you use social media, you are probably tracking your data on a daily basis through likes, shares, or comments; so you know that data doesn't just have to be a boring graph or pie chart. The "Dear Data" project is a great example of how easy it is to collect data, and how creative you can get with modeling your findings. It's also a great way to learn more about your own habits, and make positive changes in your life. Watch the video below and explore the website (linked below the video) to learn more about this wonderfully creative (and scientific) project.
Once you have had time to learn a little more about this project, challenge a friend, family member, or even your teacher to collect and share data in a creative way. Some suggestions for things to collect data on are at the bottom of the page. If you don't have access to post cards or stamps for mailing your data, you can always take a picture and send it to whoever you challenged!
Ideas to help you get started on your daily or weekly data collection challenges:
#1. How many times a day/week do you open your refrigerator?
#2. How many times a day/week do you say something nice about someone (including yourself)?
#3. How many times a day/week do you feel bored?
#4. How much time a day/week do you spend outside?
#5. How many times a day/week do you laugh?
#6. How much time a day/week do you spend watching TV or videos online?
#7. How many (and which) chores do you complete every day/week?
#8. How much time a day/week do you spend doing things that make you feel happy?
#9. How much time a day/week do you spend being active (e.g., exercising or playing around)?
#10. How many times a day/week to you reach out and communicate with your friends?

Study the data you collect to learn more about yourself and your habits, and use that information to start making positive changes in your life.
